SELLWOOD ANTIQUE MALL, SINCE 1991
How can you have your Antique store and a life too? Follow the prescription of Dr. Mark Gearhart owner of the Sellwood Antique Mall. Mark moved into the Wall’s Hardware Building in Sellwood in 1991 and set up individual cases and spaces, for all those people that dreamed of owning their own Antique Store. People with the passion to fulfill their dreams, while not willing to give up full time careers or taking on the day to day responsibilities of being a storeowner. With a space at the Mall, people from the community and world travelers, have the opportunity to display, price and enjoy the rewards of being an Antique Dealer.
When the building, located at 7875 SE at 13th in Sellwood, was opened in 1910 as both a Hardware store and Home furnishing, it offered a selection of items that drew people from all over the community. The same is true today. Diversity of Dealers makes for a lot of variety, which is a great drawing card. The Mall is best described as “not stuffy”, “well organized”, “fun for the whole family”, and “a great place to find quality bargains”. The open beam ceiling and the casual atmosphere help to keep the Hardware store feeling, alive. Locked, glass front, cases offer ease of viewing the Antiques and Collectibles. Up in the Attic, open floor displays, provide the opportunity to “try on” a chair for size, prior to purchase. There is also a back room, open to the public, filled with everything from oil paintings, to Howard’s wood refinishing products. Those who are looking for the answer to “what is this worth”, have also come to the right place; The Sellwood Antique Mall has one of the largest collections of Antique and Collectable reference books in the Country.
The diversity of the Mall attracts celebrities, just watch for the limousine parked out in front of the building. You might see Martha Stewart, Dennis Franz, Sally Struthers or Louie Anderson, just to name a few. Movie companies come to the Mall to purchase props for their films; a moving van from MGM Grand pulled up recently, and left with items for the movie Bandits, filming in Wilsonville. Visitors to Oregon love that the Mall is open seven days a week, from 11:00 to 5:00, and often make it their first and last stop in town.
History sets the stage in SELLWOOD and the SELLWOOD ANTIQUE MALL provides the place, to travel back in time to your childhood, or to find an item that one of your ancestors might find familiar. More than a decade of success is a small measure of time in the world of Antiques and Collectibles. But, long enough to know when the building soon reaches the one hundred-year mark, the Sellwood Antique Mall will be a part of that History making day.
